Ben's Grocery Store

One of the gang complained that it has been awhile since everyone went out for a meal. So when the guy from KT came back to town I organised (well I initiated and he did the rest of the organizing ^^)  a food outing. After looking at many many possible places to go, we decided to go to Ben's General Grocery Store (yes the guys went "what????" when I suggested the place) in Bangsar Village. It is western sort of restaurant with an actual grocery store attached. The grocery store has quite a number of interesting stuff! Might go back to get some herbs some day.

Moving back to the restaurant. As it was a quite impromptu outing, we did not do any reservations. Since the mall is not one of the more crowded malls, we thought it would have any trouble. Boy were we wrong..... on the bright side, we discovered that they actually have four parking floors :) So after being stuck in a jam IN the parking area, we finally got a spot and went up to the restaurant only to discovered that it was full. The friendly host put us on the waiting list and said will call us when the table is ready, in about 15 minutes. After wandering around aimlessly looking at Christmas decoration and music CD, we went back to the restaurant to see if the table was ready. Since it was not, guys being guys were hungry and grouchy. So they decided to go somewhere else to eat. If that happened, this post would be here today. Just as we wanted to go Nando's for lunch, the host waved at us excitedly. We have a table!

After placing our orders, they came back with a bottle of chilled water and glasses. Apparently it is very common in Australia. I just like the bottle ^^

We ordered one of their specials which is roasted chicken with 2 sides. We took a whole bird. It was nothing to shout about, but not too bad either.

Not sure if it was because they were hungry, they polished the chicken even while complaining that it is too dry and not tasty enough.

This is their B.I.G lasagna. It is basically beef lasagna so I cannot comment on the taste. The others said it was delicious though.

This is their mushroom lasagna which I am definitely going back to eat again. Layers of various mushrooms alternated with cheese and lasagna sheets topped with fragrant pesto sauce and served with salad on the side. The flavours complemented each other to give total satisfaction to a mushroom lover such as yours truly. The mushrooms were cooked just nice, with texture and taste intact. The cheese was not over powering and the pesto just gave it the finishing touch. Yum! (Though I would recommend that it is ordered to share rather than as a single course. Some things are best enjoyed in small portions)

One other highlight of the place is their milkshakes. It is lovely! Plus they have Nutella flavour! A definite must try!

Oh! They also have wood fire pizza that was quite nice. We had the margarita pizza. Unfortunately, it was devoured before I could even whip my camera out. Next time I want to try their mushroom pizza with truffle oil..... sounds delicious.

Service was reasonable. Food was great. Company was awesome. Combination of an excellent outing ^^

*thinking of next visit to Ben's General Grocery Store*
